How to get Humantay Lake

Humantay Lake is a stunning turquoise lake located in the Andes Mountains of Peru, near the iconic Machu Picchu. Here’s how you can get to Humantay Lake:

Start from Cusco: Most visitors to Humantay Lake start their journey from the city of Cusco, which is a popular tourist hub in Peru.

Book a Tour or Arrange Transportation: Since Humantay Lake is a bit remote, many travelers opt to book a tour that includes transportation from Cusco to the trailhead. There are numerous tour operators in Cusco offering day trips to Humantay Lake. Alternatively, you can arrange transportation yourself, either by hiring a private car or taking a shared minibus or colectivo.

Drive or Take a Bus to Mollepata: The starting point for the trek to Humantay Lake is usually the town of Mollepata. If you’re on a tour, your transportation will likely take you directly there. Otherwise, you can take a bus or drive yourself to Mollepata from Cusco.

Begin the Hike: The hike to Humantay Lake typically starts from Soraypampa, which is a short drive from Mollepata. The trek is around 3.5 to 4 kilometers (about 2.2 to 2.5 miles) each way, with a moderate level of difficulty. The trail is well-marked but can be steep in some sections.
